Task 2.4

Integrated European Polar Research Programme

The major objective of EU-PolarNet is the development of an Integrated European Polar Research Programme and the delivery of this will involve all four work packages but Task 2.4 will coordinate this substantial activity. The major element of the task will be to organise a second Town Hall meeting that will include representation from all the relevant scientific and stakeholder communities. This key meeting will bring the work of the four work packages together. It provides a basis for developing a coherent programme design that integrates across the breadth of existing polar research, identifies key new investments (both infrastructural and scientific) needed to address the most pressing polar issues and incorporating mechanisms in the design to ensure effective provision of outputs to the various stakeholders.

Further meetings will focus on editorially refining the plans that emerge from the Town Hall event and through an iterative process producing both a framework for an integrated European Polar Research Programme and recommendations, which will be developed in conjunction with Work Package 3 and  Work Package 4, for implementing the Programme.

The outcome of Task 2.4 will be a result of joint efforts of the whole EU-PolarNet consortium. The French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) will coordinate the work, supported by the European Polar Board (EPB) Executive Secretary.

This Task will focus on:

  • Developing an Integrated European Polar Research Programme.

  • Recommending a realistic implementation plan for the Polar Research Programme in close cooperation with Work Package 3 and 4.
